NSW: Former boxing champ in court again.
For the second time in as many months, former world boxing champion JEFF HARDING has
appeared in a Sydney court charged with breaching an apprehended violence order and common
assault.
HARDING, 35, who is currently unemployed and without a permanent address, was arrested
this morning on an inner-city street, allegedly at the scene of a loud argument between
himself and his wife.
According to a statement of facts tendered to Central Local Court, it's alleged the
1989 light heavyweight title-holder grasped his spouse tightly by the upper arm, leaving
bruise marks.
A bystander is understood to have alerted police to the altercation, outside Plato's
Cafe on the corner of Kent and Market Streets.
The court heard when police arrived, HARDING allegedly smelt heavily of alcohol.
Despite a request not to allow HARDING bail, Magistrate ALLAN MOORE chose not to remand
him in custody.
As an alternative, he amended the former boxer's already stringent apprehended violence
order conditions to cover his wife's place of work.
HARDING was placed on a two-year good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to breaching
an order on October 12.
Mr MOORE adjourned the matter until January 17.
